Former presidential adviser Reno Omokri criticized Peter Obi, who ran for president of the Labour Party, LP, in the most recent election, for claiming that President Bola Ahmed had filed a fake certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
People should be honest about their qualifications, Peter Obi remarked in response to Tinubu’s university certificate controversy. He insisted that having a degree is not even a requirement for being a good president. He gave examples of American presidents who had poor educational backgrounds.
Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate, won a contentious judicial battle to have Tinubu’s academic credentials for the February 25 presidential election investigated.
To prove his eligibility to vote in the election, Tinubu gave INEC certificates from Chicago State University, CSU.
A court in the United States of America ordered CSU to produce Tinubu’s academic transcripts on Saturday in order to verify them and support Atiku’s claim to have the results of the 2023 presidential election challenged.
In a ruling, Justice Nancy Maldonado rejected Tinubu’s argument against Atiku’s request and directly commanded the CSU to give Atiku access to his academic records.
And on Monday night, the records were made available to the PDP leader, albeit some social media users are still doubting their veracity.
Reno, though, is criticizing the Labour Party candidate for even speculating that a false certificate might have existed someplace.
“Peter Obi, Chicago State University, has backed Bola Tinubu’s certificate and stands by the legitimacy of his academic credentials,” he wrote on X.
“Only yesterday morning, you were on AriseTV accusing a certain leader of having a ‘fake certificate.’
“Now, answer this question: Why did you not tender your own degree from the University of Nigeria Nsukka to the INEC?”
