The President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, has recently called for Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to be released without conditions. This has drawn criticism from the Arewa Community in Southern Nigeria.
Iwuanyawu’s assertion was disputed by the community’s leader, Musa Saidu, who questioned whether Kanu’s release would put an end to the killings in the Southeast.
Saidu highlighted that no one protested when Kanu ordered IPOB terrorists to kill innocent citizens in the South East.
“Not just in the South East, so many members of the Arewa community were assaulted in Port Harcourt and nobody raised a fuss; we have the numbers, we even have the pictures of those who were murdered without mercy.
“Now that they’re demanding his release, what assurance are they providing that the murders won’t continue if he is released?”
Despite being discharged and acquitted by the Court of Appeal, the Federal Government has refused to release Kanu.
Since being returned to Nigeria after being extradited from Kenya, Kanu has been held in custody.
