Because the UK has suspended its visa waiver arrangement with the Dominican Republic, even for visits, some wealthy Nigerians with Dominican passports will no longer be permitted entry.
Those who reserved their travel visa before 3 p.m. UK time will still be permitted to visit the UK without a visa even if the ban will take effect on July 19.
For individuals whose confirmed reservations were made before 3 p.m. on July 19 and whose arrival in the UK is no later than August 16, there will also be a four-week visa-free transition period.
The new condition will not apply to Dominican tourists who are currently in the UK for the remainder of their trip, although they will need to reapply for visas.
The decision was made, according to Suella Braverman, UK home minister, as a result of “clear and evident abuse of its citizenship by investment scheme, including the granting of citizenship to individuals known to pose a risk to the UK.”
