In honor of Nigerian afrobeats musician David Adeleke, also known as Davido, the City of Houston in the United States of America, USA, has proclaimed July 7 as Davido Day.

Sylvester Turner, the mayor of Houston, issued the proclamation in a statement that was made public on Friday in Houston, Texas.

In his proclamation, he said, “I, Sylvester Turner, Mayor of the City of Houston, do hereby proclaim July 7, 2023, as Davido Day.”

A copy of the message was posted by Davido on his Instagram story.

Following a sold-out performance by Davido in Houston, Texas’ renowned Toyota Center, the mayor issued the proclamation.

Wizkid, who created history by being the first African performer to sell out the Skyway Theatre in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, was granted a similar honor in 2019.

Mark Dayton, Governor of Minnesota declared October 6 as Wizkid Day.
