Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s presidential candidate, requested that his petition challenging the election and declaration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner of the most recent presidential election be streamed live. However, the Presidential Election Petition Court, or PEPC, declined his request on Monday in Abuja.
The Court determined that the request was unusual and that any national laws did not currently support it.
Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani, the court’s chairman, made the panel’s unanimous ruling. He stated that the request had nothing to do with the appeal Atiku had submitted to the court.
Additionally, Justice Tsammani stated that the motion may transform the court into a stadium or market square and that it should not be permitted at this time.
Additionally, Justice Tsammani ruled that the petition would not gain any dictatorial significance from being granted live transmission of the proceedings.
In the end, Justice Tsammani determined that the petition lacked substance and rejected it.
Because of the colossal importance of his appeal, Atiku has asked the court hearing his challenge against the results of the presidential elections held on February 25 for an order authorizing live broadcast of the daily sessions.
In the plea, Atiku and the PDP expressly requested from the tribunal “An order Directing the Court’s Registry and the Parties on Modalities for Admission of Media Practitioners and their Equipment into the Courtroom.”
