According to Godswill Akpabio, President of the Senate, President Bola Tinubu will commission projects worth N30 billion in December of this year at the National Assembly complex.
While speaking with the chairman and other members of the NASC governing board over the weekend, Akpabio disclosed the commissioning of the projects being worked on inside the National Assembly compound.
“The National Assembly building as a whole resembles a construction site at the moment because of ongoing general restoration work and brand-new projects that, when finished, would be commissioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in December of this year,” the speaker claimed.
“In addition to the general rehabilitation work, the National Assembly Service Commission’s permanent office complex and a highly appropriate library complex are also being built as new structures.”
The 9th National Assembly appropriated N30 billion to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) for the execution of the project; however, as of March of this year, only N9 billion had been released. Akpabio did not specify the amount of money that had been released to the contractors handling the project.
The Senate President promised that the September deadline will be met in response to NASC chairman Ahmed Kadi Amshi’s request for fast documentation of legislative assistants of legislators.
“Your Excellency, Mr President of the Senate, please help us to inform the serving senators, and by extension, honourable members of the 10th National Assembly, to forward names of their appointed legislative aides to us for required documentation and payments of monthly salaries.
“The commission has opened relevant files for this purpose and fixed September this year as the deadline,” the NASC chairman said.
According to him, the commission has promoted 2,775 employees over the past three years, changed the cadres of around 447 others, and established an ethics code for staff members to follow at all times.
