President Bola Tinubu met with representatives of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The conference was held shortly after Nigerians were led by organized labor to protest against the present administration’s elimination of the gasoline subsidy and other policy measures.
The NLC President, Joe Ajaero, and his TUC counterpart, Festus Osifo, as well as the general secretaries and other senior members of the two workers’ organizations, were the labor leaders present at the meeting.
The topics covered at the conference, however, have not been made public.
However, they might not be completely unrelated to the government’s wants for labor.
The requests include reversing the elimination of fuel subsidies, reviewing the minimum wage, releasing the federal government’s eight-month withholding payments to university professors and employees, and rolling back the increase in tuition.
