The hearing for Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was postponed by the Supreme Court on Thursday until the next month.
Kanu’s Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, revealed the Supreme Court’s ruling in a tweet.
Ejimakor tweeted, “Unfortunately, the Supreme Court has continued the #MNK appeal hearing to next month.”
On November 3, 2022, the secessionist appealed the Court of Appeal’s decision to prevent his release from DSS custody to the Supreme Court.
The secessionist had appealed the Court of Appeal’s decision to prevent his release from DSS detention to the Supreme Court on November 3, 2022.
Kalu contested the Court of Appeal’s 28 October 2022 ruling, which put a hold on the execution of its previous judgement clearing him of all accusations and ordering his release from the secret police’s custody.
Prior to the hearing, Kanu’s Special Counsel had urged the Supreme Court to ensure justice in the trial of the IPOB leader, stressing that his matter should end today.
Kanu’s release has been demanded by a number of notable Igbo leaders and the Ohanaeze Ndigbo before President Muhammadu Buhari’s term ends exactly one month from now, on May 29, 2023.
