Super Eagles move up one spot in latest FIFA ranking

In the most recent rankings announced by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) on Friday morning, Nigeria’s Super Eagles rose one spot.

The three-time African champions climbed from position 40 to 39.

But Jose Peseiro’s team is still sixth in the continent.

The team’s victory this month over the  Leone Stars of Sierra Leone was the cause of the marginal improvement.

In order to qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, the Super Eagles defeated the Leone Stars 3-2 in Monrovia.

The Terangha Lions of Senegal and the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia are now ranked as the second and third-best teams in the continent, respectively, behind the Atlas Lions of Morocco, who continue to hold the top spot.

The top five teams are made up of the Egyptian Pharaohs and the Desert Foxes of Algeria.
