The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has declared that it will offer the necessary assistance to guarantee that Nigerian students evacuated from Sudan be enrolled in the universities of the country.
The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NIDCOM, Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, was hosted by JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, on Tuesday.
To talk about integrating Sudanese returning students into Nigerian higher institutions, Dabiri-Erewa brought others to the JAMB headquarters.
Oloyede promised that the board would assist in integrating the Sudanese students who were returning.
According to Oloyede:
“What we’ll do is provide you the tools you need to accommodate or admit these applicants back into our educational system by giving you the infrastructure and support you need. Transferring students is subject to procedures. The transcript, the rules and regulations, and nobody should harbor the illusion that Nigerian universities will grant degrees to students who have completed less than two years of residence at the institution. The process is carried out lawfully and properly with the assistance of the National Universities Commission and the specific institution.”
The head of JAMB further clarified that students who are to be moved must enroll in at least two academic semesters.
“If you are doing a five-year program, you will go to year four because you are going to spend year 4 and 5,” Oloyede continued.
