Nurses, midwives association suspend planned strike in Kwara

The Kwara Council of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives has halted its 21-day strike ultimatum to the state government over the subpar working conditions of its members.

Aminu Shehu and Markus Lukas, the chairman and secretary, respectively, wrote a letter to the state governor, Malam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, stating that the decision was made with the governor’s unequivocal agreement with the council’s demand.

Among the requests are the hiring of additional nurses for the healthcare industry, an increase in CONHESS from 70% to 100%, the adoption of a hazard allowance (between N32,000 and N34,000), and the introduction of a uniform allowance.

“As a result of the aforementioned approval of our demands by his Excellency, the leadership of the association wishes to suspend the 21-day ultimatum issued,” the letter stated.

“While waiting for the cash backing, within the month, we appeal to our members to remain calm and committed to their service to humanity,” the council added.

The group prayed to God to help Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and to give him more insight so he can manage the state’s problems.
