The 2.4 million gallons per day Apapa Water Works has been revived by the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA.
Managing Director of NPA Mohammed Bello Koko stated that the facility has been dormant since 2012 at a transfer ceremony on Thursday.
He stated that the facility will assist in meeting the demands of Nigerians residing in the Apapa neighborhood.
According to him, “responding to the existential needs of our operating environment is top priority on our Corporate Social Responsibility agenda, which explains why we quickly approved the request to revive the Apapa Water Works, which had been dormant since 2012”.
The initiative follows a comparable renovation of the Accident and Emergency Ward at the Apapa General Hospital and the purchase and deployment by NPA of a first-of-its-kind waste management system in Africa.
The facility’s rehabilitation was praised by the Apapa Residents Association and the Chairperson of Apapa Local Government, Hon. (Mrs) Idowu Shebanjo.
