Mason Mount has been signed by Manchester United for an initial sum of £55 million.
Depending on performance and appearances over multiple seasons, Mount’s total price might reach £60 million.
The 24-year-old has committed to Old Trafford for a five-year contract that may be extended by an additional year and runs until the summer of 2028.
The deal ends Mount’s 18-year affiliation with Chelsea, where he won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup. Mount becomes United’s first summer acquisition.
“It’s never easy to leave the team where you grew up, but Manchester United will present a fascinating new challenge for the next stage of my career,” said Mount, who will don United’s historic No. 7 shirt.
“Having competed against them, I am aware of how great the team I’m joining is, and I am eager to contribute to their desire to win significant trophies.”
“Under Erik ten Hag, the club has advanced significantly, as can be seen by everyone. I had a meeting with the manager and learned about his intentions, and I am now more eager than ever for the upcoming seasons and prepared for the hard work that will be required here.
“I have a really high level of ambition; I understand how fantastic it is to win significant trophies and what it takes to accomplish it. I will do anything to have that experience at Manchester United once more.
John Murtough, director of football at Manchester United, said of Mason: “Mason is a very bright footballer and possesses so many outstanding technical talents that will really enhance our team.
“Since we have long appreciated his abilities, we are thrilled that he has decided to advance his career here at Old Trafford.
“We all agree that by working with Erik Ten Hag and his coaching staff, he will only become better. His playing style and personal qualities are a wonderful fit for our team.
“Mason is a world-class player in his own right, but he also has the capacity to elevate those around him via his keen sense of the game and tactical awareness. His fervent desire to join United and his quest for further success particularly struck us as we work to improve our performance levels for the upcoming season and beyond.
