American music icon Madonna was treated for a dangerous bacterial illness before being released from the hospital.
After being discovered unresponsive on Saturday, the 64-year-old was sent to an intensive care unit at a New York hospital where she was placed on surveillance by doctors.
Guy Oseary, Madonna’s longtime manager, revealed moments later in an Instagram post that the multiple Grammy Award winners suffered from a dangerous bacterial illness that required several days in the intensive care unit.
Last Sunday, the singer’s diagnosis prompted her management team to convene a crisis meeting via Zoom amid worries that the infection she contracted while being transported to the hospital would prove fatal.
To the surprise of her supporters, the singer was eventually released from the hospital and is now resting at home.
According to a statement released by Oseary on Thursday, Madonna will postpone the commencement of her 64th birthday tour, which was originally scheduled to begin on July 15.
“At this time, we must pause all commitments, including the tour,” he said.
“As soon as we have further information, such as a new start date for the tour and new dates for the postponed performances, we will let you know.”
