Due to an unapproved travel to Saudi Arabia, superstar footballer Lionel Messi has been given a two-week suspension by Paris Saint-Germain. It’s interesting to note that as a business obligation for his role as a tourism ambassador, Messi had scheduled the visit in advance.

The Paris Saint-Germain players were supposed to take Monday off after a defeat to Lorient, but the coach summoned them to training instead. Lionel Messi couldn’t make it back in time for practice since he had already scheduled a trip to Saudi Arabia for one of his professional obligations.

Messi was conspicuously absent from the photos taken of PSG players on Monday at their Camp des Loges training facility.

The 35-year-old was seen on Monday in Riyadh, and according to the French publication L’Equipe, he will not practice with the club for the next two weeks and will lose two weeks’ worth of pay.

Galtier and sporting adviser Luis Campos did not approve the trip, hence the club has started disciplinary action.

The Argentina captain will consequently miss the two following PSG games, against Troyes on Sunday and Ajaccio on May 13.

PSG has extended a new deal to Messi with the same financial incentives. Although Barcelona is urging him to return, he has not yet decided whether he will remain with the French club.
