IPOB turns down South-East stay-at-home order

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have disassociated themselves from the South-East’s one-week sit-at-home order.

An unnamed organization had declared a week-long sit-at-home campaign in the South-East from July 3 to July 10 in an audio message uploaded on social media during the week.

The goal of the “#FreeNnamdiKanu” effort is to pressure the Federal Government into freeing IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, who is currently being held captive.

The radio message’s promoters warned that leaving on the designated days would result in terrible consequences.

The IPOB spokesman, Emma Powerful, asked the residents of the area to disregard the audio message, claiming it did not come from the organization, in a statement released on Wednesday.

“You should know those people declaring the fake stay-at-home and the criminal who is destroying our land illegally,” he stated.

“The leadership of IPOB has requested me not to draw attention to it at this time. I will publish a formal press release denouncing it two days after the date stated in the recording”.
