The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have issued a sit-at-home order for the state’s residents from May 8 to May 11, and the Ebonyi State Police Command has ordered them to defy the order.
The sit-at-home policy was deemed unconstitutional by the state’s commissioner of police, Faleye Olaleye.
The command spokesman, Onome Onovwakpoyeya, issued a statement that included Olaleye’s order.
Olaleye, who Onovwakpoyeya cited, declared that such a decree was illegal and could not stand.
“Police are aware of the circulating statement from an organization going by the name of IPOB calling people to observe a sit-at-home protest from May 8 to May 11, 2023.
“The police are ready, therefore the people of Ebonyi should disregard the order and carry out their legal obligations without fear of intimidation,” he said.
He advised state residents to carry out their daily tasks without intimidation or fear.
In order to protect themselves, Olaleye urged the public to alert the police of any threats.
