The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has refuted claims that election workers sent to Adamawa State to oversee the recently ended governorship elections paid the state government house a night time visit before the poll’s conclusion.
According to reports, the claimed meeting was intended to purportedly rig the election in favor of Ahmadu Fintiri, the incumbent governor.
A list of “collation and returning officers” was allegedly given to the authorities after they met with some people at the government house.
However, the commission claimed there was no such meeting in a statement released on Wednesday by Festus Okoye, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee.
The commission stated that although it avoids disputes with partisan actors, especially when no proof has been shown, the claim was untrue.
“To clear the air, it should be stated that no such visit or meeting ever happened, let alone any supposed list of collation and returning officers.
“Such a gathering might have violated the neutrality promise we all took,” he claimed.
