The independent National Electoral Commission office in Takai Local Government Area of Kano State has been reportedly gutted by fire. The incident as gathered by our correspondent happened around 09:30am on Sunday when some unidentified people attacked forcing election observers, journalists, and INEC officials to seek refuge in the ceiling but the thugs decided to set the office on fire. One of the victims who is a journalist from the area said the thugs were believed to be followers of one of the political parties.
“Eyewitness account said the fire was set up from behind the building but it was quenched before it made serious damage and security operatives dispersed the crowd. “
He said ” people sustained injuries from the fracas that initially broke out and were taken to the hospital but claimed that four persons were killed.
Another source said “the fracas broke out as a result of issues during the collation of results in the LGA. ” The Police Public Relations Officer in Kano SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa confirmed the incident. he said the fire was set up at the generator house behind the office building but it was put off immediately.
