The Labour Party, LP, and its presidential candidate Peter Obi submitted a plea to have the proceedings broadcast, but the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has ordered the presidential election petition court to dismiss the request.
Following the pre-hearing session on Wednesday, Levy Ozoukwu, the legal representative for Obi and LP, informed the media that INEC had objected to their request for a live broadcast.
“Interestingly, INEC is objecting,” said Ozoukwu.
“A public organization that receives government funding and speaks for the populace claims they oppose live broadcasting. What do they have to hide?”
The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Tinubu’s win in the general election of 2023 was challenged in a petition filed by Obi and the LP.
The petitioners are requesting the tribunal to appoint INEC to hold new elections or, alternatively, to declare Obi the winner of the presidential election.
