Nasir El-Rufai, the governor of Kaduna state, has asserted that during his two terms in office, he did not steal public funds.
The governor reportedly mentioned this during his final media appearance as governor, which was conducted over the weekend.
“I promise that I have never stolen a kobo from the government. Those who claim that we took out loans ought to examine their own cash on the ground before they make such claims. This loan was not obtained by us in order to build a mansion on Jabi Road or to flee to Dubai to acquire homes so that we could sleep soundly. That is not how we operate.
“My lone residence when I was elected governor of Kaduna was at Ungwan Sarki on Danja Road. That is the only house I have, and I’m finishing it now to the glory of God. Since I had no need for a mansion, I didn’t construct one.
“I didn’t steal anyone’s money, and I’m daring all former state officials to get forward and swear in front of the Qur’an that they didn’t take any resources from Kaduna that weren’t rightfully theirs while they were in office.”
