A Nigerian chef and restaurateur by the name of Hilda Effiong Bassey (often referred to as Hilda Baci), set a new record for the longest solo cooking marathon by cooking continuously for more than four days.
In order to considerably beat Lata Tandon’s 2019 record of 87 hours and 45 minutes, the chef first set out to cook for 96 hours. She was then inspired to prolong her attempt to 100 hours and 40 minutes, shattering the record by almost 13 hours, as the 96th hour drew near.
Over 200 meals were made during Hilda’s Cook-a-thon, which lasted from May 11, 2023, through late May 15, 2023 and over 4,000 people were fed.
Hilda Baci expressed her gratitude for everyone’s love and support by saying, “I am very astonished by the outpouring of love from Nigerians towards breaking this record. I had to pray to God for strength throughout the first six hours, which were the most difficult for me.
“I thank everyone who took the time to help me out by coming to the event to support me or fueling the conversation on social media.
“I deeply appreciate your unrelenting devotion to seeing that I am successful in this endeavor. I would want to express my gratitude to my family, the many teams that collaborated on this project with me, and the worldwide supporters that kept the enthusiasm alive.”
