The Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has postponed making a decision on the bail request of suspended Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Godwin Emefiele until July 13, 2023.
After hearing the arguments from all parties involved in the case, Justice Hamza Muazu, the presiding judge, issued the order.
Through his attorney, Emefiele is contesting the Department of State Services’ (DSS) detention of him as well as the denial of access to his family and legal counsel.
Godwin Emefiele’s plea for bail was challenged by attorneys for the DSS and the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation.
The respondents also told the court that Emefiele is a flight risk.
Counsel for the respondents similarly claimed that the detention of the suspended CBN governor was mandated by the Chief Magistrate Court of the Federal Capital Territory.
