Neymar was fined £2.6 million by Brazilian authorities for breaking environmental laws when building his seaside property.
Concern over a mansion’s artificial lake has led to punishment.
Neymar shared a video on Instagram that was believed to show the artificial lake the former Barcelona player is constructing at his home. This video led to the initial complaint of an environmental offense being made to Mangaratiba City Hall.
In a statement released on Monday, Mangaratiba’s environmental organization claimed that environmental violations occurred “during the construction of an artificial lake at the mansion.”
The local attorney general’s office, the state civil police, the environmental protection office, and other environmental regulatory organizations will also look into Neymar’s case.
In a dispute over the prohibited building work, it was claimed last month that Neymar’s father “insulted environmental agents and was threatened with arrest.”
Neymar Snr. received a warning that personnel in charge of carrying out the task need “more education,” according to Brazilian source UOL Sport.
In light of the harm done by the construction to the property on the southern shore of Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro state, Neymar Snr. was given a fine that is expected to be close to £822,000 (five million Brazilian reals).
