The two legal counsels for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the incarcerated leader of IPOB and the Indigenous People of Biafra, have been suspended by his family.
In a tweet posted on Thursday, the younger brother of the secessionist, Kanunta Kanu, revealed that Kanu’s attorneys, Prof. Mike Ozekhome SAN and Bar. Ifeanyi Ejiofor, had been fired.
He said that the change came as a result of the lawyers’ inability to visit their client who was being held at the Department of State Services’ headquarters in Abuja.
Kanunta further charged that the attorneys reportedly prevented medical personnel from treating the separatist while he was being held by the DSS.
After Nnadmi Kanu’s case on May 11, 2023, he claimed, “Even after receiving numerous texts from MNK requesting a meeting, Prof. Mike Ozekhome SAN refused to see his client at the DSS headquarters in Abuja.
“Second, despite the fact that MNK and Bar. Ifeanyi Ejiofor had been properly informed on June 2 and that MNK had instructed them to notify his family to make arrangements, the medical professionals who were scheduled to evaluate MNK on June 5 were prevented from doing so.
“Prof Mike Ozekhome SAN and Bar. Ifeanyi Ejiofor are now dismissed as Nnamdi Kanu’s Counsels for the aforementioned reasons, as well as many more.
“The Kanu family does appreciate your time and effort thus far; kindly deliver the legal documents as soon as possible.”
