The 2023/2024 season might see five teams qualify for the Champions League for the first time in Premier League history.

The 2024/2025 season will mark a change in the competition’s format, with 36 clubs participating in a “Swiss league” fashion.

The two nations with the best teams across all UEFA tournaments would be given an extra spot as a result.

This year’s English clubs would need to produce one of the top two performances in the Champions League, Europa League, and Europa Conference League for it to happen.

“We will likely only know when that fifth spot will come into play for the UCL towards the end of the season, when the geographical spread of the participating clubs in the latter stages of UEFA competitions is known,” a Premier League statement said.

The top four clubs traditionally qualify for the Champions League.
