Erik ten Hag, manager of Manchester United, has come under fire from former Barcelona player Arturo Vidal for his part in the club’s decision to let forward Cristiano Ronaldo go last year.

In the summer of 2021, Ronaldo made a sensational comeback to Old Trafford after nearly signing for their Premier League rival Manchester City.

The 2021–22 season saw the Portugal captain become Man United’s leading scorer.

However, Ronaldo’s importance at Old Trafford diminished when Ten Hag joined the team the next season.

After an emotional interview with British broadcaster Piers Morgan in which he attacked Man United, Ten Hag, and some of the team’s players, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner eventually parted ways with the Red Devils by mutual consent. His contract was terminated in December 2022.
