The discharge certificate being shown by Peter Mbah, the next governor of Enugu State, was not given by the National Youth Service Corps, according to Brig Gen YD Ahmed, Director General of the organization.
On Friday, Brig Gen Ahmed said during an appearance on Arise TV’s breakfast show that the issue of whether Mbah has a valid NYSC certificate or not does not exist because he has informed the PDP candidate in the 2023 governorship elections that the certificate he has presented is a fake.
“He came to me, and I called my director to confirm the certificate. We found out that the certificate was fake, and I told him,” I said. I worry about how educated elites would use certifications from the underground market.
“Everyone knows how we issue our certificate in NYSC; we don’t give it in hotel rooms or houses,” the DG remarked.
Peter Mbah, the candidate for governor of Enugu State, has filed a lawsuit against the NYSC, seeking N20 billion, claiming that the controversy over his certificate caused injury to his person.
Recall that in February 2023, the NYSC issued a letter claiming that the discharge certificate Mbah submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission was not one they had issued. This was in response to a request from a non-governmental organization.
