On Tuesday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission issued a warning to Nigerians about a ‘scam alert’ that reportedly came from the EFCC Help Desk.

According to the agency, there is no such desk.

The EFCC’s warning was contained in a statement that Wilson Uwujaren, the organization’s head of media and publicity, signed and put on Twitter.

The warning, “Beware of Scam Alert,” said in part, “The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has been attracted to a Scam Alert, spreading on the social media, which allegedly originated from EFCC Help Desk Headquarters, Jabi-Abuja.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the EFCC maintains no such desk, and any information purportedly coming from the claimed EFCC HELP DESK was not created by the EFCC.

“The use of the EFCC by the creators of the Scam Alert suggests malicious motivations, and it’s crucial that the public be made aware of this since the Commission will not be held responsible if anyone falls for what is clearly a scam.”

Therefore, the Commission advises the general public to exercise caution and confirm any uncertain information with them.
