According to reports, Mateo Kovacic, a midfielder for Chelsea, has reached a personal agreement with Manchester City.
The Croatian international’s contract expires the following year, and Chelsea is eager to offload players who still have one year left on their contract rather than letting them leave for free in the following summer.
Man City was given Chelsea’s approval to speak with Kovacic about a transfer, according to Sports Mail.
Additionally, the Chelsea midfielder has a contract in place, according to Fabrizio Romano, the Premier League winners.
After the Champions League final, the teams are predicted to reach an agreement on a price.
Kovacic declared on Thursday that, following a “really bad season” at Stamford Bridge, he is prepared to “change environment” and leave Chelsea this summer.
The 29-year-old midfielder revealed he is extremely likely to quit the west London club this summer, with only one year remaining on his current Blues contract, ahead of Croatia’s Nations League semi-final matchup against the Netherlands the following week.
In the midst of speculation about a possible move to the Etihad, Kovacic also praised Manchester City, calling Pep Guardiola’s Treble-chasing squad a “top team.”
Ilkay Gundogan’s contract is up in the summer, and clubs like Barcelona, Arsenal, and a few Saudi Arabian teams are interested in signing the out-of-contract captain of City if they are unable to extend it.
Following his success at Real Madrid and Chelsea, Kovacic is anticipated to sign with the Premier League and FA Cup winners for the upcoming campaign.
‘My contract with Chelsea is up in a year.’ The midfielder said, “It’s been a pretty difficult season.”
“Everything points to me changing the environment after five years, but we’ll see what happens,” he said.
