The Senate agreed to the president’s proposal to select 20 special advisers on Tuesday.
The proposal of the President was approved after being read aloud on the floor of the upper legislative house by Senate President Ahmad Lawan.
Upon hearing the request, Lawan said, “It is of the utmost urgency” that the president has his team to work with.
“We will just accept it from here since special advisers have no names. This, in our opinion, is a really urgent matter.”
The 20 special advisers’ identities were not provided by Tinubu, though.
The news comes shortly after Tinubu announced the hiring of George Akume, a former minister of special responsibilities, as his secretary to the government of the federation and Femi Gbajabiamila, the departing speaker of the House of Representatives, as his chief of staff.
Additionally, he named Sen. Ibrahim Hadejia, a former deputy governor of Jigawa State, as deputy chief of staff and George Akume, a former minister of special duties, as secretary to the government of the federation.
This information was provided in a statement headlined “President Tinubu appoints Gbajabiamila COS, Sen. Ibrahim Hadejia, DCOS, and George Akume, SGF,” which was released on Friday and was signed by State House Director of Information Abiodun Oladunjoye.
The statement stated, “The President also named former governor of Benue State and former minister of special duties, George Akume, secretary to the government of the federation in a meeting with Progressive Governors Forum.”
