The governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, has been immediately removed from office by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Willie Bassey, Director, Information Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, said in a succinct statement on Friday night that it is in response to the ongoing investigation of his office and the anticipated banking sector reforms.
Emefiele has been instructed to take up control of his office’s business to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will serve in that capacity until the inquiry and reforms are complete.
