The arrest and detention of Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), were quashed by an Abuja High Court on Friday.
Emefiele made a request, and the presiding judge, Bello Kawu, approved it.
On June 9, President Bola Tinubu removed Emefiele from his position as CBN Governor and ordered him to hand over his duties to Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi, Deputy Governor of the Operations Directorate.
The following day, the Department of State Services (DSS) said that Emefiele was under its care for “some investigative reasons.”
Since then, Emefiele has remained in the custody of DSS, which maintains that it has a legitimate court order to keep him there.
Following a decision from the FCT High Court, the DSS announced on Thursday that Emefiele had been charged and would appear in court.
