On Wednesday, a United Nigeria Airlines plane veered off runway 18L at Murtala Muhammed Airport terminal 2 in the Ikeja neighborhood of Lagos State.
The plane that arrived from the Ebonyi Airport in the state’s Abakaliki region was claimed to have at least 50 passengers on board.
Achilleus-Chud Uchegbu, the airline’s head of corporate communications, stated in a Daily Trust report that the plane landed safely but had to stop moving to the apron off the runway.
“All passengers disembarked safely, and they were brought to the arrival hall with their luggage,” he said.
“Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria representatives are on the scene of the mishap and are assisting UNA engineers in moving the aircraft to the hangar.
“In addition, the NCAA and AIB have been properly notified and are on the scene. United Nigeria is actively assisting the government.”
The airline assured the public that it consistently upheld the strictest safety standards in its operations and would continue to put passengers’ safety first at all times.
