The South-West Frontiers has expressed concern over reports that some people who identify as supporters of President Bola Tinubu are plotting the illegal detention of prominent candidates for the positions of House Speaker and Senate President, including the former governor of Zamfara Abdulaziz Yari.
The action was referred to be a provocative, unjustified, and uninvited attempt to harm the Tinubu Presidency and create rifts among the Northern political friends of the South-West in a stern statement issued by Frontiers chairman Kolawale Adediji Kazeem.
“We watch as certain desperate politicians deliberately try to portray the President as being involved in his own war, which he is not, in order to draw him into their conflict for their own ends.
“To be clear, the South-West would not allow any action motivated by a few people’s egos that would put the South-West president in conflict with any of its allies, notably the North.
“We thus issue a strong warning to anyone who believes it is their obligation to drag our president, a well-respected cosmopolitan democrat, into the murky waters of their questionable agenda. We are ready to defend our president at all costs.
“To our beloved president, we once again express our faith in his capability to deal with whatever leadership the legislative offers for the welfare of the nation.
“We thus urge him to exercise caution among unsavory characters and to reject any pressure to behave in an undemocratic or constitutionally questionable manner.
“While urging the President to permit the democratic process to play out in the election of the National Assembly leadership, we urge all aspirants not to succumb to blackmail or intimidation.”
