The election of Dr. Alex Otti, the candidate for governor of Abia and member of the Labour Party, LP, was not declared invalid by a Federal High Court.
The Kano LP candidates who ran in the general election of 2023, according to the court, were not legitimately elected.
Ibrahim Haruna-Ibrahim has submitted a petition seeking the court to nullify and annul the certificates of return given to all LP candidates who had been proclaimed winners in Kano and the 35 states of the Federation, including the FCT, Abuja.
Justice Nasir-Yunusa clarified that the Abia candidates who ran in the recently finished general elections were not parties to the lawsuit, notwithstanding the conflicting comments that followed the judgment.
According to Nasir-Yunusa, the court merely found the Labour Party’s Kano State primary election to be invalid.
“This court lacks the authority to issue a certificate of return, under the law.
“They are free to file a claim for relief in the relevant court division,” he added. Justice Nasir-Yunusa clarified that the Abia candidates who ran in the recently finished general elections were not parties to the lawsuit, notwithstanding the conflicting comments that followed the judgment.
